Quick answer

Before buying anything shiny: protect the machine (skids), make sure you can get yourself unstuck (winch + recovery kit), make sure you can get help (satellite messenger), carry the load safely (rated racks + luggage) and fix a flat (plug kit + compressor). Lights, extra fuel and comfort come after.

Most ATVs leave the dealer set up for farm chores or day rides, not for two days and 100 miles from the truck. The list below is ordered by what keeps you safe and self-reliant first. Several "overland" or "trail" trims, like the CFMOTO CFORCE 1000 Overland, already include some of these from the factory, so check your spec sheet before you buy twice.

The list

  1. Full skid plates and A-arm guards. Rocks and stumps find the frame, A-arms and CV boots first. See skid plates & protection.
  2. Winch (if not factory) and a basic recovery kit. Synthetic rope, tree saver, snatch block, soft shackle and gloves. See winch & recovery.
  3. A satellite messenger or PLB. Cell coverage disappears fast in canyon country. See comms, GPS & navigation.
  4. Tire plug kit and a 12V compressor. The most common trail stopper is a flat. See tires & wheels.
  5. Rack luggage that is rated and strapped properly. Hard cases or dry bags, mounted low and centered. See luggage, racks & boxes.
  6. Offline maps (and a paper map). Load the Motor Vehicle Use Map or BLM travel map for your area.
  7. Auxiliary fuel. Know your range first; most ATVs carry roughly 4 to 7 gallons. See aux fuel.
  8. Switched 12V/USB power. For the messenger, phone and compressor. See power & USB.
  9. Lighting. A modest LED pod or light bar for getting back to camp after dark. See lighting.
  10. Comfort: handguards, heated grips, windscreen, backrest. They matter on long days in cold desert mornings.

What the CFORCE 1000 Overland already has

According to CFMOTO's 2026 model page, the CFORCE 1000 Overland ships with a 3,500-lb synthetic-rope winch, beadlock wheels, a fairing/windscreen, heated grips, hard-side cases, a 2-inch receiver and 12V plus USB power. That covers roughly items 2 (winch only), 5, 8 and 10. You still want skids/guards checked, a recovery kit, a satellite messenger, a flat-repair kit and extra fuel.
